METALPRESS MACHINERY — EDMONTON REGION

Industrial Presses & Heavy Manufacturing Equipment for the Edmonton Region

Industrial presses, heavy tooling handling and manufacturing equipment for machinery, fabrication and energy-sector manufacturers across Edmonton, Nisku and Central Alberta.

Equipment engineered around force, size, access and control

Edmonton-region manufacturers often form thick material, straighten welded assemblies, build energy-sector equipment, press large industrial components and move tooling weighing tens of tonnes. Production volumes may be lower than automotive stamping, but every component can carry much greater value.

MetalPress Machinery supplies high-force presses and heavy-load handling systems throughout Edmonton, Nisku, Leduc, Acheson, Sherwood Park and the surrounding Alberta manufacturing corridor.

One of Western Canada’s major manufacturing centres

The Edmonton Metropolitan Region combines advanced manufacturing, energy, metals, machinery, chemicals and specialized industrial equipment. Its manufacturers frequently produce sophisticated, engineered-to-order products rather than one standardized part at very high speed.

Edmonton

Metals, machinery, energy equipment, industrial valves, steel products and specialized manufacturing.

Nisku & Leduc

Energy-sector manufacturing, industrial fabrication, tubular products, process equipment and large components.

Acheson & Western Edmonton

Heavy equipment, fabrication, logistics and plant layouts that require careful crane, forklift and installation planning.

Heavy manufacturing starts with the workpiece

Press selection should begin with the component rather than the catalogue tonnage. Material, geometry, thickness, operation and loading method shape the required press structure.

Material & geometry

Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, high-strength alloy or composite; plus length, width and overall shape.

Operation

Forming, straightening, bending, drawing, assembly, press fitting, compression, testing, coining or sizing.

Loading & access

Overhead crane, forklift, robot, conveyor, side loading, open front and rear access or specialized fixtures.

High-force forming for large industrial components

MHS-SV straight-sided servo-hydraulic presses

The MHS-SV Series provides a rigid straight-sided H-frame for demanding applications with large tooling surfaces. The current range extends from approximately 100 to 2,000 metric tonnes, with platen sizes increasing with tonnage.

Potential applications include structural and heavy-gauge forming, compression moulding, heavy assembly, straightening, large tooling and specialized engineered processes.

Why frame rigidity matters as parts become larger

At hundreds or thousands of tonnes, structural behaviour directly affects tooling alignment. The load travels through the upper structure, slide, tooling, workpiece, lower platen and press frame.

Frame construction

The structure must remain stable at the actual working tonnage.

Platen behaviour

Evaluate deflection, dimensions and support beneath large tooling surfaces.

Guidance & alignment

Slide guidance, parallelism and off-centre loading affect process repeatability.

Tooling interface

Tool dimensions, weight, clamping and access must be included in the machine specification.

Program the complete press stroke

Servo-hydraulic control allows different jobs to use different force, stroke, speed and dwell recipes. This supports high-mix, lower-volume production where the next component may require a completely different motion profile.

Fast approach

Move efficiently toward the workpiece.

Controlled contact

Reduce velocity before engagement.

Forming stage

Apply force at the required speed with pressure or position control.

Dwell & return

Hold pressure or position where needed, then retract for unloading.

When tool access matters more than a closed frame

MTP and MTP-SV 4-post presses

Four-column architecture leaves the working area open for crane loading, side access, large fixtures, assembly, deep drawing, trimming and press fitting. Standard MTP models range from approximately 35 to 200 US tons, with custom beds, stroke and daylight available by application.

The press must fit the existing material-handling process: crane approach, opening, combined component and fixture height, operator position and guarding.

Heavy presses perform more than conventional forming

Straightening

Correct distortion in welded, fabricated or heat-treated components using controlled force and suitable supports.

Assembly & press fitting

Install bearings, bushings, shafts or structural components with repeatable force and position.

Compression & testing

Apply a known load to a component, assembly or engineered material and document the result.

Bending, forming & sizing

Create geometry in heavy material or bring fabricated parts into dimensional specification.

The machine should be configured around the actual force-versus-position requirement rather than treated as a generic press.

Move heavy tooling and fixtures under control

MDR die, mould and heavy-load upenders

The MDR Series provides controlled 90-degree rotation for heavy dies, moulds and compatible industrial loads. Standard capacities extend from approximately 5 to 70 metric tonnes.

A heavy load is more than its weight. Provide the load drawing, dimensions, centre of gravity, contact surface, starting and final orientation, and loading method. Two 20-tonne loads can require very different handling equipment.

Flexible equipment for engineered-to-order production

When the next job differs from the previous one, equipment should support adjustable stroke, programmable recipes, multiple tools, accessible work areas, flexible fixtures, HMI controls and automation interfaces.

Controlled process

Define force, position, speed, dwell and cycle instead of relying on operator-dependent methods.

Useful automation

Recipes, positioning, measurement, part tracking and safety improve consistency even at lower volumes.

Production records

Force, position, cycle time, recipe, alarms and counts can support quality documentation.

The machine must fit the plant

Large equipment requires installation planning before shipment. A press that fits the building can still be a poor solution if the workpiece, tooling or service equipment cannot move efficiently around it.

Floor area & clear height

Confirm the footprint, tall press components and overhead loading envelope.

Crane & aisles

Check crane coverage, capacity, forklift movement and finished-component routes.

Utilities & foundation

Document electrical service, hydraulic needs and civil preparation.

Shipping & maintenance access

Plan the installation route and future access to cylinders, pumps, motors and controls.
